Refrigerated or ambient display counters: which do you need?

Use a refrigerated counter when your products need chilled storage. An ambient counter suits only products permitted at the intended room conditions and display duration.

Do you need a refrigerated or ambient display counter?

Choose refrigeration when the products require chilled storage during display. Choose an ambient counter only for products whose storage instructions allow the intended room conditions and display period. Begin with the products and their handling requirements; similar-looking glass counters can serve different purposes.

Which products will you display, and for how long?

List the actual products, their supplier’s storage instructions, the planned display period and the expected room conditions. Check those details with the person responsible for your food-handling procedures. An ambient counter provides no active refrigeration, so its appearance or enclosed glass cannot establish chilled-storage suitability.

If your assortment includes products with different requirements, ask whether separate displays are needed. Avoid assuming that a single controller setting or one cabinet will suit the entire menu. Resolve the storage requirement before comparing style, lighting or price.

How much usable display space do you need?

Arrange your intended trays, plates or packages on a sketch and count what must be visible during a normal service period. Compare shelf dimensions, spacing, loading limits and access openings with that arrangement. Include space for staff to replenish stock and retrieve a product without disrupting the rest of the display.

Check sightlines from the customer’s position, reflections from nearby lighting and the working height for staff. Ask which shelves and lighting features are included in the quoted configuration. A product photograph can help with layout, but confirm the dimensions on the selected model’s drawing.

What installation details should you confirm?

Measure the route into the premises and the final position. Include rear access, door travel and the manufacturer’s ventilation and service clearances. Note nearby cooking equipment, direct sunlight and other conditions that may affect the proposed location.

For a refrigerated counter, request the stated operating range, ambient rating, electrical connection and any drainage requirements. Ask how the model is intended to be loaded and monitored. Compare verified energy information under stated conditions rather than treating input wattage as daily consumption.

What should you ask before ordering?

Confirm the model, refrigerated or ambient configuration, glass and shelf arrangement, included accessories and cleaning access. Clarify how seals, lighting and other service parts can be accessed.

Keep the product-storage requirements and proposed tray layout with the quotation. They give the supplier a clear basis for confirming suitability and help you compare options on the same terms.
